NaPoWriMo – Day 1

Day 1

Prompt:   Write a poem that has the first same line as another

Chose:  Not a poem, but a book, and just for concept

I know why the caged bird sings – Maya Angelou

Flinch!  the cage door slams shut

Restrained by the gilded band of duty and obedience

Flustered wings denied the space to expand

Beyond the boundaries of my self-imposed entrapment

Defeated by fabricated vows

My fallen crest betrays my frailty and fragility

Delicate trills belie my once ardent forte

I venture to withdraw to a darkened corner of my confines

To be frustrated by the curve of my smooth-edged frame

Spirit broken, I spiral out of control

Probing for an outflow from my fortifications

Connubial conducts cracked the connection
