NaPoWriMo – Day 7

Day 7

Prompt:  Write a poem in which each line except the last takes the form of a single, declarative sentence.  Then, the final line should take the form of a question.

I lost my love, my job, my money, my home, my children

I sit on the ground; detached, dispassionate, numb

My eyes glow under the streetlamp, red and tear-stained

My threadbare coat struggles to warm me, even just a little

The brazier fires; I move closer to the flames

The brown paper bag screens my half-empty bottle of liqueur

The golden nectar briefly sparks an ember that fires, then greys

I sink into a foggy abyss that shields me from more pain

I awake to find demons relentlessly burying into my psyche

They, and I, loudly declare that I have lost myself

Can anybody find me?
