Tick tock

Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock …

When did my life become watching the clock?
Following hands like an eager-eyed hawk, as they mock
Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick …

Ten years times three I was ready to rock
Busking my tunes on a New York sidewalk, then it stopped
Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick …

Ten years times two I began to take stock
Mum to two kids and consumed by small talk, culture shock
Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick …

Ten years ago I had unpicked the lock
Time to erupt like a lively popped cork – stumbling block!
Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick …

Truth is, I’m now thirty years round that block
Life’s flying by like a wayward wind sock
Bogged down by rolling stock
Can’t you knock?
Won’t wear a lady’s frock!
Stop the darn clock!

Tick … tock … tick … tock … tick … tock … tick …

Ten years from now and my mind might undock
Lose all my marbles, and start to eat chalk, from a wok

Tick … tock … tick … tock … I still rock … tick … tock … tick …

When did my life become watching the clock?
