The Final Straw

“It was only a small side swipe;
she wound me up so tight,”
he said.
But that didn’t make it right.

What he’d failed to notice
as he slammed the front door shut,
was how he’d knocked her hard
into the wall and cut her
deeply…

She touched hand to cheek.
Felt the blood seep
through her fingers.
Saw red.
Steadied herself.
Cried out –
“That’s the very last time
you’ll commit that crime!”

“Just an eight-inch slap,”
he said,
from his hospital bed,
before he slipped away.

She’s still on the run.
They’ve never found her –
or the gun.

(A little darker than usual)
