She grappled with him,
hooked him, fed him a line.
He sank to his knees, cap in hand.
She reached into her bag.
It only took one shot.
Glassy-eyed, he looked up.
Searched her face.
She didn’t play by the book.
It was case closed.
He should have minded his own business.
They’d been partners in crime.
Now she must wave him goodbye.

Sometimes even looking at somebody can cause a rift . In this case the cause and effect seems extreme.
To be honest, booguloo, I wasn’t thinking about the meaning of what I was writing. The ‘shot’ I first had in mind was vodka, but it didn’t fit in with what I was trying to achieve with the wordplay 🙂
