Cellophane Flowers

I am the wallflower
Goo goo ka joob
But I’m quite certain that’s not its correct Latin name
(Erysimum cheiri)

Here comes the sunflower
Do do do do
It’s alright.
Again, whilst it has a certain ring to it, it’s not quite right
But it is much easier to say than
Helianthus annuus

Dear primrose
Won’t you come out to play?
A rose by any other name would smell as sweet
(Here’s where I get nerdy)
Aeolic βρόδον wródon
Wordy words from the Persian ‘wurdi’
Flying out like endless rain into a buttercup
Which, if i may say, is far more aesthetically sounding
than ranunculus

Perhaps I’ll stick to cellophane flowers in an Octopus’s Garden
